Clay Beginner Workshop

A Beginner’s Pottery Intensive

Find your rhythm and get creative with clay. Over one intensive weekend,
we guide you through the art of wheel throwing—moving step-by-step from raw earth to finished form.

Step by step, you’ll learn the process at the wheel — practicing, repeating, and slowly finding your own rhythm in this condensed weekend format.

The Journey

Saturday, 7. March

  • 10:00 – 13:00 · The Foundation: Introduction & First Forms

  • 14:00 – 17:00 · The Flow: Practice, Patience & Shaping

Sunday, 8. March · 14:00–17:00

  • The Detail: Trimming & Refining your Pieces

Final Session: Glazing

  • Flexible Glazing Session (Date chosen together)

Details

  • The Process: Saturday is for creating; Sunday is for refining. Overnight, your pieces dry to a "leather-hard" state, allowing for precise trimming.

  • All-Inclusive: Clay, tools, glaze, and firing are all covered.

  • Pickup: Your ceramics will be fired and ready about 21 days after the glazing session.

  • 〰️ Suitable for both beginners and advanced participants

  • 〰️ Bring a change of clothes and shoes that can get a little messy

  • 〰️ Average number of finished pieces: approx. 3–5

〰️ Workshops take place with a minimum of two participants

  • A little guide for a smooth start.

To ensure you have the most relaxing and creative experience, here are a few things to keep in mind before you arrive at the studio:

    • Hand Care · This is the most important tip: Short fingernails make wheel throwing much easier. Long nails can accidentally "carve" into your wet clay and make centering a bit tricky.

    • What to Wear · Wear comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little "muddy." While clay washes out easily and we provide aprons, it’s best to leave your favorite silks at home.

    • Jewelry · Rings, bracelets, and watches are best left at home or tucked safely in your bag, as they can get in the way (and covered in clay) during the process.

    • Hair · If you have long hair, bring a hair tie along so it doesn't get in your face while you're focusing on the wheel.

    • Arrival · The studio doors open 10 minutes before we start. Arrive early to settle in, grab a tea, and find your spot.
